Aboitiz Foundation partnered with Mandaue City Government and the Department of Education (DepEd) Sponsors the Construction of 26 Classrooms to Mandaue City Public Schools. A total of 26 classrooms will be constructed for Canduman Elementary School, Subangdaku Technical Vocational School, Tingub High School, Cabancalan 1 Elementary School, Banilad Elementary School (Mandaue City), and Mandaue City Central School. Construction will start this month and is due for completion in February 2012 - specifically February 14, 2012.

Stakeholders in the partnership to build and refurbish classrooms in Mandaue City are optimistic that the project could help them achieve their respective goals of addressing the lack of classrooms. Presentduring the signing last October 1 were (from left) Mandaue City Vice Mayor Glenn Bercede, Mayor Jonas Cortes, Foundation president Jon Ramon Aboitiz, and DepEd Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Nimfa Bongo. A separate signing of agreements with the principals of the beneficiary schools was is led by Foundation EVP & Managing Trustee Sonny Carpio.
26 Classrooms, Baking Laboratories and Science Laboratories
Aside from building classrooms, the baking laboratories of Cabancalan National High School and Mandaue City Comprehensive National High School, and the science laboratories of Jagobiao National High School and Mandaue City Science High School, will undergo refurbishment.
Aboitiz Foundation President Jon Ramon Aboitiz said they chose Mandaue City as their beneficiary because its officials have been responsive in allocating counterpart funds for the Foundation’s projects.
“This (partnership) is a very good example of … networking to be able to give Mandaue City residents better education and better opportunities,” he added.
Mayor Jonas Cortes, for his part, said the project is timely considering that the City Government has just kicked off its celebration of Children’s Month.
He also said that the project will help address the perennial problem of classroom shortage in the city’s public schools. (Mandaue City needs 200 more classrooms in both the elementary and secondary levels)
Aboitiz  Foundation has approved P21 million for the implementation of these projects; the City Government will shoulder the remaining P9 million as counterpart.

HP Philippines and Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), recently pioneered a campaign against the production and proliferation of fakes and counterfeits "NO to Fakes. KNOW the Original!", seeking to raise public awareness and commitment to stop the proliferation of counterfeits, including frequently counterfeited items such as banknotes (Peso bills), Original HP ink and toner cartridges.

HP has launched a new Mobile Authentication tool to help customers identify counterfeit cartridges more easily and conveniently. The HP Mobile Authentication tool features a QR code on both HP Original ink and toner cartridge security labels. Customers can simply scan the QR code on the security label to immediately confirm authenticity, or validate the label by entering the cartridge serial number at the HP Mobile Authentication website.
How does HP Mobile Ink Cartidge Authentication feature work?
To use HP Mobile Authentication, customers should perform the following steps:

1. Visually check the label. The new HP Mobile Authentication label features holographic image-shifting properties in addition to the QR code. Customers should perform the following steps to visually verify that the label is valid: (The HP Mobile Authentication QR code may be read with any standard QR code reader or with the reader included with the HP eSupplies app for iPhone available at the iTunes App Store or Android Phones at Andoird Market Portals.)
• Tilt box front to back to see ‘OK’ and ‘ü’ move in opposite directions.
• Tilt box right to left to see ‘OK’ and ‘ü’ move in the same direction.
2. If the package includes a new Mobile Authentication label, a smartphone QR code reader can capture the security code. (The HP Mobile Authentication program is available only with security labels that feature the QR code.)
3. View the response from HP. A valid response indicates that the cartidge is safe for purchase while an invalid response indicates that the cartidge may not be genuine.

Customers who do not have the ability to scan QR codes can also validate the new label before they open the box. They can simply enter the alpha numeric code printed next to the QR Code, shown on the new security label at the HP Mobile Authentication website. Following these quick steps, HP customers can experience the quality and reliability of Original HP ink cartridges, including twice as many pages than refilled cartridges3, and reliability all the time in contrast with 42% of refilled cartridges tested that were dead-on-arrival or failed prematurely.

Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has also introduced several new security features in its new generation Philippine banknotes to combat the proliferation of fake peso bills. The new generation Philippine banknotes boast visible and hidden security features that includes:

• Concealed denominational value
• Ccolor-changing security thread
• Iimproved serial numbers
• Glowing security fibers under ultraviolet light
• Watermarked portrait
• Embossed prints
• The word “Pilipino” in Baybayin (pre-Spanish Philippine writing system), to an optically variable device (500 and 1000 denominations only) among others.

The "NO to Fakes. KNOW the Original!" campaign seeks to educate individuals and businesses on the economic risks of counterfeit goods, including billions of pesos in annual losses.
Ultimately, HP Philippines and Central Bank of the Philippines wants the campaign to become a national movement that seeks to inspire consumers and establishments to make a commitment to stop supporting fakes and patronize original products instead.
